Dear friends, partners, and supporters,
May 15, 2025 marks one full year since I stepped into the role of Executive Director at Bike Walk Greenville — and wow, what a year it has been! When I joined the organization, I knew I was inheriting a bold mission: to make active transportation safer, more accessible, and more equitable across Greenville County. What I could not have fully anticipated was how passionate, supportive, and ready for change this community truly is.
Over the past 12 months, I have had the privilege of listening to residents, walking neighborhoods with advocates, connecting with county and city leaders, and building new relationships with community partners, businesses, and funders. These conversations have been both sobering and inspiring. They have reminded me that while we have made real progress, we still have so far to go to ensure that every person — regardless of age, income, zip code, or ability — can move safely and freely in the places they live, work, and play.
This year, we focused on strengthening our foundation while expanding our reach and sharpening our voice. Thanks to the support of our board, funders, and community, we:
- Completed a full rebrand to better reflect our values, purpose, and the communities we serve
- Launched a new website that makes our resources, advocacy tools, and stories more accessible than ever
- Elevated community concerns about gaps in sidewalks, bike lanes, and street safety to local officials and planning agencies
- Built new partnerships across the nonprofit, public, and private sectors — recognizing that no one changes a system alone
- Empowered residents to advocate for safer streets in their own neighborhoods
- Secured new grant funding that allows us to invest in our own capacity — and dream bigger about what’s next
Each of these accomplishments is a step toward a broader vision — one in which walking, biking, rolling, and using transit are not just viable options, but safe, joyful, and equitable ways to move through life in Greenville County. Strategic planning is on the BWG horizon, and it could not come at a better time. We are entering a new phase of possibility — one that requires us to think bigger, act bolder, and center equity in all that we do.
In the year ahead, we are committed to:
- Growing our advocacy capacity to influence policy and infrastructure decisions
- Hosting community-led conversations in neighborhoods most impacted by unsafe streets and transit gaps
- Cultivating champions at every level — from residents to elected officials
- Exploring mobility justice through a lens of health, safety, affordability, and access
None of this work is easy. But it is necessary. And it is fueled by individuals like you — people who believe that transportation should not be a barrier.
I want to thank you — whether you donated, showed up to a meeting, shared our posts, or simply talked to a neighbor about the need for safer streets. This work only happens when we move together. I am so proud of what we have accomplished this year!
With gratitude and determination,
Jasmine Vanadore
