Two of us from Bike Walk Greenville enjoyed hearing Jeff Speck speak in Spartanburg on November 7, 2019. We are very familiar with his work which includes his newest book Walkable City Rules: 101 Steps to Making Better Places
Speck’s one hour presentation in Spartanburg was similar to the presentation he did in Greenville on April 12, 2017, and he suggested to the audience that his those not in attendance invest 18 minutes to watch his TED Talk 4 ways to make a city more walkable
On our ride back to Greenville we agreed that not enough leaders in our community have spent the time to fully understand the steps that Speck suggests.
Please consider watching his TED talk and sharing his message with your network.
We close this email by including a photo we shared on social media from his visit to Greenville where he stressed the need for a network of protected bike lanes. Last night he reiterated that simple solution of turning four lane roads into three lane roads with a road diet allowing for room for protected bike lanes while still allowing the equivalent motor vehicle traffic.
