Volunteer April 17 at Bikeville Classic

bikeville classicOn Sunday April 17, as part of the Bikeville Classic weekend, our city is proudly hosting the USA Cycling Criterium National Championships. Sunday’s race is the culmination of a weekend full of the celebration and excitement of bike racing.

Bike Walk Greenville is partnering with the Greenville Spinners Bicycle Club to have a booth at the Expo alongside the downtown race course from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM Sunday. The BWG/Spinners booth will be located near the start finish line, adjacent to ONE City Plaza and the VIP spectator area at the intersection of Coffee & Main Street.

The booth we have secured at the race gives us the perfect opportunity to personally engage with our community. We are searching for volunteers who are passionate about our cause, advocating for complete streets in Greenville County, to help us staff our booth.  Volunteers will have the opportunity to tell race spectators and downtown patrons about the work Bike Walk Greenville is doing to ensure transportation infrastructure includes planning for people who walk and people on bikes.  It is critical to our mission that we conduct community outreach events like this, to make more citizens aware of our organization and the work that we do.

Bike Walk Greenville is building momentum with recent events such as the exclusive showing of the ‘Bikes vs. Cars’ film, and our leadership to enact pedestrian and bike counts at a crucial intersection of the Swamp Rabbit Trail in downtown Traveler’s Rest. In order for us to capitalize on this momentum, we will be talking about our upcoming calendar of National Bike Month events in May, and our continued opportunities for advocacy across the County.  We will also have our hip new “Think Outside The Car” t-shirts for sale at our booth.

The Bikeville Classic expo is the perfect opportunity for us to meet more like minded individuals in our community who can help further our cause, and also engage with those who may not be aware of us. Come join us and volunteer for an hour or two in the booth!
